The curriculum of St. John's Christian Academy will provide a continuous path of study preparing students for success in a four-year college or university. In addition, our curriculum integrates Biblical instruction and a Christian worldview in all subject areas.
Preschool (Grades K3-K4)
The goals of our pre-school curriculum include the following: Christian character education; language development; phonological awareness: rhyming, clapping, syllables, and alliteration; recognition of letters and beginning sounds; recognition of long and short vowel sounds; color, shape, and number recognition (1-20); counting; sequencing, predicting, and graphing; problem solving; social and emotional development. Students in K3 participate in weekly physical education classes, chapel and receive daily Bible instruction. In K4, students attend weekly chapel services that include participatory praise and worship through music and Bible-based messages. In addition to participating in physical education, K4 students attend weekly music and library classes.
Elementary School (K5-5th grade)
Our elementary curriculum is designed to give students a necessary foundation for the college preparatory curriculum used in the Upper grades. In addition to reading, English, math, science, and social studies, our students are given instruction in elementary music, art, and physical education. In addition, students in grades 3-5 receive instruction in computer literacy. Students participate in daily Bible lessons and weekly chapel services that include participatory praise and worship through music as well as relevant Bible-based messages.
Middle School (6th-8th)
The middle grades serve as a bridge from elementary school to high school. Students are given a variety of opportunities to explore their interests and celebrate their strengths. This level of curriculum is designed to meet the individual differences of students particularly in the areas of reading and mathematics. In addition to a formal study of the Bible, students will be involved in chapel, Christian outreach, and spiritual guidance. Core courses include math, English, social studies, science, and literature. Exploratory classes are offered in art, Spanish, computers and physical education. Middle school students who excel in one or more of the content areas may apply to take Alphas (Academic Leaders Pursuing Higher Achievement and Success) enrichment courses in math, science, English, and social studies.
High School (9th-12th)
The high school curriculum design ensures that students are able to meet the needs of an increasingly dynamic and complicated society. Entering college, students must be prepared to undertake rigorous academic coursework. They must be equipped with organizational skills, advanced writing and reading abilities, critical thinking ability, and problem solving skills. SJCA provides a demanding college preparatory curriculum that includes courses offered at the college preparatory, honors, advance placement and dual credit levels. Advanced juniors and seniors who earn qualifying test scores are exposed to a college curriculum in our Early College Academy in which they can earn 36 college credits through Trident Technical College. Our Honors Academy is designed to prepare accelerated students in 8th-11th grades to successfully complete dual credit college courses while in high school. With a student/teacher ratio of 12:1, our faculty has the availability and dedication to respond to each individual. Our faculty understands the importance of inspiring a student’s quest to excel academically and the development of the wisdom needed to apply that knowledge as leaders in the 21st Century. Our students are encouraged to participate in a variety of academic competitions and enrichment activities.
